My background and interest in social causes goes back to the mid-1980s, when I was finishing a Masters Degree in electrical engineering. I spent 4 years working on a research grant from IBM to provide children with physical disabilities and learning disabilities with access to computers. That evolved into a web site I created in the mid-1990s, www.kidport.com, to provide online education focused on K-8 students. Kidport.com now provides free educational material to about a million students per month. In 2007, I was the chairperson for the Saratoga Rotary Art show that raised about $100,000 for local charities. I’ve also coordinated projects to collect books and school supplies for San Jose schools and children.
Although I’ve taken thousands of photos in my life (many are posted on my OldBoysToys.com blog), I’ve just started to get serious about photography. I’m semi-retired now, and I’m interested in getting more involved in photography and social causes.
Looking forward to getting to know you all through my class projects and discussions.
